Dark Matter eLiquid

Enjoy the wonderful flavor of our latest VapeSafe eLiquid - Dark Matter.

Dark Matter tastes like German chocolate cake. For those of you who have not had the fortunate to try a piece German chocolate cake recently, this is a great way to experience the flavor without getting any of the calories. German chocolate cake is a layered cake filled and topped with a coconut-pecan frosting. Traditionally sweet baking chocolate is used for the chocolate flavor in the actual cake. The robust filling and topping is a caramel made with egg yolks and evaporated milk. Once the caramel is cooked, coconut and pecans are stirred into the mixture. Finally, rich chocolate frosting is spread around the sides of the cake to hold in the filling.

Dark Matter eLiquid by VapeSafe captures the essence of German chocolate cake. Dark Matter eLiquid delivers plumes of vapor and rich chocolatey flavor that you'll want to enjoy again and again. Try Dark Matter today!

Summary: "Stay far away from this one."

I bought this laptop after reading quite a few reviews and had heard Toshiba made a good laptop. Unfortunately, that has not been my experience. From the beginning the laptop had trouble and after returning it to out-of-box state I did manage to get it to work for the most part for approximately 3 weeks before it returned to the screen freezing and on reboot you would just get a black screen. Oh, and did I mention that these run hot? Even with a laptop cooler this thing will be pumping out hot air constantly. I don't think the fan ever quits running.

So I sent it off for repair along with a note detailing the problems it was having and that re-imaging the HD wasn't going to fix the problem. Well, of course they sent it back saying they had re-imaged the HD and it tested out fine. So I turned it on, pulled up a browser window and once again it locked up. I really wanted to like this laptop but it's made it utterly impossible.

At this point I have exhausted all of my options through the telephone customer service and have sent a certified letter requesting a refund and filed a report with the Better Business Bureau. Toshiba called today and told me there is no option to refund my money and the only thing I can do is send it in for re-repair.

Tomorrow I will contact the merchant I purchased it through, along with my credit card company and see if there is some way to return this useless fire hazard.

Summary: "Happy except for the battery"

I am very happy with this laptop overall, but I am disappointed with the battery. I followed the instructions to maximize the battery life written by another reviewer, but I still only get about an hour.

Here are the windows experience results that I got:

Base score: 5.9

Processor: 6.1
Memory (RAM): 7.2
Graphics: 6.4
Gaming graphics: 6.4
Primary hard disk: 5.9

I ran Cinebench 11.5, and both the CPU and OpenGL came in 6th.

CPU: 2.71 pts
OpenGL: 16.57 fps

The only other thing I found pretty annoying was the loud high pitched noise it had when you pressed the volume buttons on the case. To disable the sound, launch HWSetup.exe (C:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\Utilities\HWSetup.exe), click on the "Button Setting" tab and change "Function Button Sound Notification" to "Disabled".

Summary: "Has some drawbacks"

This labtop is very good, but there are some serious drawbacks making me very angry from Toshiba. These are:

1) Low screen resolution. This is the most serious drawback and this is why I'm very angry from Toshiba. This laptop is 16", nVidia video card and the true bright screen. All this sounds great and convinced me to buy this laptop although it is heavier than similar laptops from Lenovo and HP. But after that I discovered that the screen resolution is only 1366x768. This is less than my previous 15.6" laptop. My previous laptop was 900x1440 although it had less powerful Intel graphics card. This low resolution is annoying too much because of the low vertical 768 pixels. This is not enough even for simple applications like Skype. For a laptop with 16", nvidia graphics and Core i7 processor, this is completely unacceptable.

2) The second thing I disliked in my Satellite A505 laptop is the huge and heavy power adapter and big cables. They are 1Kg !!

Other than that, this laptop is excellent.

Summary: "toshiba satellite a505 review"

overall - the satellite a505-6040 is ok. i had to send mine back since some keyboard keys didn't work (enough of them to cause repeated strokes to get each letter to show) and cd/dvd was noisy and difficult to get cd/dvd in and out. screen was good though and media options (for SD and 1394 as well as others) was also nice but not useful at this point. I think i got a defective laptop so hopefully yours will function better and quieter.

Summary: "great quad core, comfortable use and good looking"

this is a great laptop, especially for moderate users. My personal issues with this laptop:
-the backspace button squeaks. Probably a unique problem.. sorta funny as well.
-all of the ports are very close together, besides 3 of the 4 USB ports. The VGA out, ethernet port, the HDMI out, the sleep/charge USB/eSATA, the firewire port, the audio in/out, and the expresscard port are all so close that using them all at the same time might be problematic.
-my laptop came with a faulty firewire port, so be sure to test all of the ports on the unit before your warranty expires. Once again, might be unique, but it is worth testing. I bought a $40 expresscard Firewire port to override the issue for now, and am about to send the laptop back to Toshiba for the warranty-covered service.

Otherwise, this is a great laptop. The fullsize keyboard is nice, however I will still use a regular one while at home via USB.. the numpad is also very convenient. The laptop does (expected) get fairly warm when running hardware-intensive programs (CS5, for example), so consider a nice cooling fan unit with this purchase.

EDIT: One other thing. The battery onboard is not meant to be disconnected from the power source for more than an hour.. I am definitely going to purchase the 12-cell that Toshiba sells for $150 to extend this time. Be prepared to lug around the power cables wherever you go if you don't..

The only other complaint would be that dust and fingerprints show very easily on the surface.. but no biggie for me!

p.s.: the firewire port on this laptop is NOT the fullsize 6-pin firewire, but instead the (I believe it is called 4-pin) miniDV size. This may be a good or bad thing for some users, but cables that go from 4 to 6 pin are readily available... it was just a surprise to me that wasn't listed in the tech specs.
